Hidden Objects Game With a Crime Investigation Theme

Mysteryville 2 is a hidden objects game, which serves as the sequel to the original Mysteryville. As with the first game, players take control of a journalist called Laura Winner, and the gameplay consists of hidden object scenes and puzzles, which must be solved in order to progress the story and uncover the main mystery.

Striking the Right Balance

The plot for Mysteryville 2 focuses on Laura Winner's investigation into the circumstances behind the disappearance of her friend, Bill Witowsky, and a potential connection between that disappearance and an auction organized by the town's new priest. Mysteryville 2 succeeds where many other HOGs fail, striking the right balance between providing genuinely challenging puzzles, and allowing those puzzles to become too frustrating.

An Enjoyable Experience

There are few graphical improvements over the first entry in the Mysteryville series, while the game is also relatively short compared to some other games of its type. Nevertheless, the engaging plot and interesting characters help to make Mysteryville 2 an enjoyable game for fans of the genre, as well as newcomers.

PROS

  • Interesting plot, which keeps players guessing
  • Puzzles strike the right difficulty balance
  • Makes effective use of mini-games
  • Players can try before they buy the full game

CONS

  • No real graphical improvements from Mysteryville
  • User interface is occasionally untidy
  • Gameplay can become a little bit repetitive
  • Relatively short compared to other HOGs
